The War Tour – Reykjavik

Welcome to The War Tour! 

So many people are unaware of the crucial role Iceland had to play in World War Two – but as we helped change the outcome of the war, it changed our country forever, from infrastructure – our international airport is American, and Reykjavik airport is British, to the food that we ate and the music we listened to.

Our guided tours take you back in time to the outbreak of war, and lead you through Reykjavik city centre, along the paths taken by the Nazi tourists, the British invasion, and the American occupations.  On our whole day trip we head out to war time ruins and the gorgeous fjord where the Arctic Convoys prepared for the “Worst Journey in the World.”

We are utterly thrilled you are interested in World War Two in Iceland! We are too! We spend our free time researching historical documents, visiting war graves to pay our respects, and chatting to veterans. Is your family member a veteran that spent time in Reykjavik or Iceland during WWII? We would love to chat to them and hear their histories. 

If our tours do not work with your schedule please get in touch. We run these The War Tour because we love it, it is a subject we are passionate about and we want to share it with people. Private tours are available, and we can be much more flexible with timing or the subject matter focuses. 

Private tours are the best option for families – we don’t allow under 10s on our scheduled tours as the subject matter covers things like the Nazis.  On a private tour we can modify the language, so we still educate, but it gives us time to explain, for example, what the Aryan race is and what it means.
